Firefox 4 vs Chrome

I’ve been using Firefox 4 for about a week and I have found it to be fast and reliable not unlike Google’s Chrome browser. What I’ve found is that the plugins for Firefox are much better. I’m not sure what the problem is but Google needs to work very hard with app developers to get quality plugins or FF4 is going to take back it’s market-share. There are some apps that are not rewritten for FF4 but developers always catch up.

Firefox now has browser-sync like Chrome but I think it’s more secure than Chrome’s. The “App Tab’s” feature is a great also. Features

There is a lot to like about Firefox 4.

Google Sync Makes Chrome Shine

I’ve been using Google Chrome for my primary browser for about two weeks and I’ve got to say I’m digging it! The speed is great and it’s very clean but just the past two day days I found where it really shines.

Google Browser Sync extends all of your extensions, bookmarks and settings to all of the Chrome browsers on all of your computers. I was trying a new Linux on my laptop. The default browser for the distro was Chrome (actually the open-source version Chromium). I opened the browser, clicked “customize and control” and Options. I clicked on the “Personal Stuff” tab and “Synchronize”. It ask for a user name and password. I entered them and Wa La the browser is setup just as it is on my desktop.

This and many other features make Chrome my favorite browser for now.

Moving To Chrome

So, I’ve been trying to move to Google Chrome as my default web-browser at least until Firefox 4 comes out. I had one issue preventing me from doing it. For years I’ve used a Delicious plugin to manage my bookmarks. The official Delicious plugin for Firefox is terrific but the of official delicious plugin for Chrome is terrible. I tried for a while using Chrome Sync. This worked fine but there was still no Delicious integration. I am totally invested in Delicious.

Just minute ago I found a Chrome extension called Chromicious. It is not an official Delicious extension but I works very well. It’s maybe better then the official plugin for Firefox! I am so happy! I don’t think I could have switched without it.

Now that I’ve figured that out I will delve into Chrome. Look under the hood and really figure out all the features.

Readers In Browsers

I found two great RSS readers in Firefox and Internet Exporer. I would not have known they were there but for doing what my father always called piddling around. I was looking at an RSS feed inside of Firefox. I always liked how useful Firefox was in viewing the content of a feed. I’ve tried viewing feeds in Chrome to find that it only renders data in unformatted XML This is not particularly useful. I thought I would try it in IE 8 and to my surprise it gave me a great reading experience. There was a nice page that even had searchable keywords. You can save your feed in your Favorites under the Feeds tab. Sorry if everyone knew this but I’m a Firefox user.

Examining feeds further in Firefox I found if your viewing a feed page and you click “Subscribe Now” it will put a button on your Bookmarks Bar. Click on the button you get a drop-down menu of all of the last 10 post on that feed.

Here is an easy but useful Firefox Tip. If you see a word or phrase on a webpage you want to find out more about select the text, right-click on it and select Search Google for “!@#$%^&*%”. Then a Google search opens in a new tab.
